They're coming soon

My elder daughter, X, told me she didn’t miss Shanghai even a single bit since arriving in Singapore, which surprised her. I told her that it would not surprise me. Why should we miss Shanghai? We both physically and mentally enjoyed the past twelve days here in Singapore. We can only complain that my wife and the “little Cuchi,” R, are still in Shanghai and not with us. But this day will come soon—less than three weeks.

Big, big smile

Today is the third day since my elder daughter, and I arrived in Singapore. Yesterday she told me that she realized something new: the stranger in the street here in Singapore would smile at her. In her own words, "big, big smile." That rarely happens in China, which poses a contrast. I told her that people would not smile at strangers if they didn’t feel happy about their own lives from their hearts. To me, it looks like people here are happier. Maybe, much more content.

April 27

Many people around me are thinking about emigration or are preparing to start emigration. People who still have hope in life are losing hope in this country.

Last test before lockdown lift?

Continue to be confined at home. In the morning, I did a small job for one of my clients, drafting a shareholder decision and amendments to articles of association. According to the government, today’s nucleic acid test will be the last one before the widely expected lift of the lockdown.

A freedom day

Shanghai Puxi entered the 25th day of lockdown. We were notified this morning that we could get out of the building. Prisoners finally got a chance to breathe fresh air. After lunch, Xara and mom played badminton downstairs while Rebecca and Ayi enjoyed watching the flowers in the complex. Rebecca's first words after returning home were: I call today a freedom day! The Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index fell 5% today. No one is optimistic about the economic situation. A friend of mine is a private equity fund manager, and he couldn't help but post the word "F U C K" directly on his WeChat Moments.

Shanghai Independence

The Wall Street Journal reported the "Voices of April" video clip. Some Chinese immigrants in New York held a demonstration and even advocated Shanghai independence, which is a bit funny. If you are physically in China, you will know we have no chance to achieve this kind of feat. Think about Hong Kong. People there had Western freedom just several years ago. However, under the iron fist of the CCP, Hong Kong looks more like a mainland China city. Pathetic. In Shanghai, people started refusing to do the nucleic acid test. Some friends openly announced they would not cooperate with the government's tests. The frequency of the test is about three or four times a week. With the entire city locked down for more than three weeks, there are still about 20,000 new infections every day. So people began doubting that such tests are the primary source of new infections.
