April 27

Many people around me are thinking about emigration or are preparing to start emigration. People who still have hope in life are losing hope in this country.

Last test before lockdown lift?

Continue to be confined at home. In the morning, I did a small job for one of my clients, drafting a shareholder decision and amendments to articles of association. According to the government, today’s nucleic acid test will be the last one before the widely expected lift of the lockdown.

A freedom day

Shanghai Puxi entered the 25th day of lockdown. We were notified this morning that we could get out of the building. Prisoners finally got a chance to breathe fresh air. After lunch, Xara and mom played badminton downstairs while Rebecca and Ayi enjoyed watching the flowers in the complex. Rebecca's first words after returning home were: I call today a freedom day! The Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index fell 5% today. No one is optimistic about the economic situation. A friend of mine is a private equity fund manager, and he couldn't help but post the word "F U C K" directly on his WeChat Moments.

Shanghai Independence

The Wall Street Journal reported the "Voices of April" video clip. Some Chinese immigrants in New York held a demonstration and even advocated Shanghai independence, which is a bit funny. If you are physically in China, you will know we have no chance to achieve this kind of feat. Think about Hong Kong. People there had Western freedom just several years ago. However, under the iron fist of the CCP, Hong Kong looks more like a mainland China city. Pathetic. In Shanghai, people started refusing to do the nucleic acid test. Some friends openly announced they would not cooperate with the government's tests. The frequency of the test is about three or four times a week. With the entire city locked down for more than three weeks, there are still about 20,000 new infections every day. So people began doubting that such tests are the primary source of new infections.

The Voice of April

The night of April 22 will be remembered by all Shanghainese. A six-minute video titled "The Voice of April" circulated on the WeChat Moments of Shanghainese. It was repeatedly deleted by the authorities, and the people of Shanghai relentlessly posted the same video over and over again. Some people have compared this incident to the May Fourth Movement in 1919. The footage in this video is a black and white shot of the city view of Shanghai. The audio part is some widely circulated phone recordings, conversations, calls for help and questions about control measures since this Covid outbreak in March. The video did not contain direct criticism of the government. Most people will think that this is just a record of Shanghai's April epidemic with a slightly personal subjective view. However, even such a relatively benign video cannot be tolerated by the authorities. People in Shanghai were outraged by the deletion. Nearly a month of strict lockdown measures have brought peop...

Cannot understand this

Yesterday's nucleic acid test indicated that there are new infections in our building. Ten samples were mixed in one test tube, so today these ten people will be retested separately. Our building has been under strict lockdown for three weeks. I have absolutely no idea how the newly infected people got infected.   If such strict control measures are taken and the infection still cannot be prevented, what is the point of the control measures? The popular explanation is that food delivery is the biggest source of infection during the lockdown. But is this believable? There are no official clarifications. But here’s a Q&A from WHO’s website: Can the virus that cause Covid-19 live on the surface of food packaging? Coronaviruses need a live animal or human host to multiply and survive and cannot multiply on the surface of food packages. It is not necessary to disinfect food packaging materials, but hands should be properly washed after handling food packages and before eating ( see ...

Ugly political struggle

In recent weeks, more and more people in Shanghai have realized that behind the chaos of this city is actually an ugly political fight. Local forces who oppose Xi Jinping are creating chaos in Shanghai to justify the failure of the "dynamic Covid-zero” policy, which is currently the national policy designed and chosen by Xi himself. Local officials put ordinary people into lockdown, food shortage and endless nucleic acid tests, shut down hospitals, manipulate numbers of infections and deaths. When the anger of the common people is about to reach boiling point, self-medias controlled by local forces began to brainwash: of course you have the right to be angry, blame Xi Jinping. This is mass killing, which makes me feel sick, and sad. Many people believe “dynamic Covid-zero” is wrong. However, if you need to kill so many people to prove it is wrong, what kind of beast you are? We, the people, victims of this ugly political struggle.
